Iain became a forensic scientist in 1998 and specialised in fire investigation in 2000. He has examined a wide range of fire and explosion scenes and been the lead forensic fire investigator in many high-profile complex cases. His laboratory-based experience includes examinations of ignitable liquid residues, heat damage to clothing, appliance testing and temperature monitoring. Iain assisted the UN in setting up a forensic laboratory.
Iain has presented evidence at Coroner's, Crown, Magistrates Courts and the Royal Court of Justice. Iain's clients include police services, defending solicitors, barristers, and insurers and private individuals in civil cases.
Iain has designed, presented and coordinated specialised fire investigation training courses for a number of UK Police services and the Turkish Jandarma. Iain is an honorary lecturer at the University of Kent.
Iain is a member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, UK-Association of Fire Investigators and International Association of Arson Investigators. He is a Technical Assessor for UKAS.
